CTC Lothians and Borders Runs Information

smallctcSunday – (2nd & 4th in month) – 40 – 45 miles

  • Start: 09.50 for 10.00
  • Location: Refer to runs list
  • Pace: Easy towards Intermediate
  • Duration: 5-6Hrs
  • Meeting time: 09:50 for a 10:00 start at published location.
  • Much use is made of cycle paths and tracks.
  • We usually have a café stop for tea/coffee and possibly for a lunch option in inclement weather.
  • Contact: Refer to runs list
  • These runs are aimed at people who fancy a relatively easy paced cycle run and those who want to take a step up from shorter to longer cycle runs.
  • Money for tea or lunch stops (some runs may stop at cafes for lunch).
  • Always be aware of seasonal needs; wear clothing that is appropriate for the weather and bring functioning bike lights if required.
  • Bring a spare inner tube and a repair kit.
  • Ensure your bike is roadworthy.

smallctcSunday – (3rd in month) – 50 – 60 miles

  • Start: 09.50 for 10.00
  • Location: Refer to runs list
  • Pace: Medium
  • Duration: 6-7Hrs
  • Meeting time: 09:50 for a 10:00 start at published location.
  • Use is made of cycle paths and tracks.
  • We usually have a café stop either during or at the end of the run and normally finish by 5.00 p.m. or earlier.
  • The pace is that of the slowest rider so that no one will be left behind.

  • The runs are suitable for new and returning cyclists and those wanting to try riding with a   group. They also offer the chance to talk to experienced CTC members and seek their advice.
  • Always be aware of seasonal needs; wear clothing that is appropriate for the weather and bring functioning bike lights if required.
  • Bring a spare inner tube and a repair kit.
  • Ensure your bike is roadworthy.

smallctcTuesday – (May –Sept) – 20 – 25 miles

  • All rides will leave at 19.00 from the Commonwealth Pool.
  • These rides are normally 20-25 miles from the meeting point.
  • They take up to three hours and usually involve a refreshment stop either during or at the end of the ride.

  • Riders should be capable of managing this distance and if they are not sure or would like advice they should contact one of the club ride leaders.

Summer – 60 – 70 miles
Winter – 40 – 50 miles

  • Start: 09.50 for 10.00
  • Location: refer to runs list
  • Pace: Intermediate
  • Duration: 7-8 Hrs
  • Meeting time 09.50 for 10.00 start at published location.
  • We have a picnic lunch; al fresco in summer and in pre-booked village hall where we can make hot drinks during the winter months.
  • Always bring something to eat and drink.

Saturday

Winter – 60 – 100 miles

Summer – 70 – 90 miles

Informal Ride

  • Start: 09.25 for 09.30
  • Location: advised by using the CTC Edinburgh yahoo group email system of contact ride leader
  • Pace: 13-14 mph (21-22.5 kph)
  • Duration: 7-9 hours
  • These rides are at an audax speed of 10 mph (16 kph) including stops, this relies on participants being able to sustain a speed of 13 – 15 mph (21 – 24 kph) on the flat.
  • Although pace can be brisk, this is a social ride and the group will stop for mechanicals and regroup when required.
  • Most rides contain at least two cafe stops.

  • Participants are encouraged to read the riding guidelines and be willing to ride in close group.
  • This is an informal ride on which  participants are expected to be self sufficient, and is not part of the CTC Lothians and Borders Member Group programme of rides.

1st Monday in month – 30 – 40 miles

Informal Ride

  • Start: 09.50 for 10.00
  • Location: advised by using the CTC Edinburgh yahoo group email system
  • Off road
  • These rides are mainly ‘off road’ using paths and tracks which are often muddy.
  • Not technical but require fitness, good cycle control and a suitable bike but not necessary to have an MTB.
  • Often car or train assisted

  • This is an informal ride on which  participants are expected to be self sufficient, and is not part of the CTC Lothians and Borders Member Group programme of rides.
  • It is essential to let the ride leader know beforehand that you intend coming on these rides so that you are expected.
