We have been asked by Police Scotland to participate in Westdrive 2017, a road safety event held at the Howden Centre in Livingston on Tuesday 29th, Wednesday 30th and Thursday 31st August. This event is for senior students in all the West Lothian Secondary Schools, most of whom are learning to drive now or in the near future. The event is organised in six sessions – morning and afternoon sessions on each of the days – and involves presentations from the police, the fire and rescue service, the Scottish Ambulance Service and the insurance industry. Cycling UK Scotland/CTC Lothians and Spokes have participated the last couple of years and provided the perspective of cyclists and how car drivers can adversely affect cyclists if they are not given sufficient space.
I am looking for volunteers to assist if possible, this can be one volunteer to cover all three days or different volunteers to cover each of the individual sessions. A breakfast is provided on each of the days and a lunch and it is not a hard day. If I can get volunteers I can provide them with a briefing on what we did last year and pass contact details on to Inspector Drew Elliot, the Community Inspector at Bathgate, who is organising the event this year.
If there is anyone able to assist, please get in touch with me. Ideally I would like to be able to confirm to Inspector Elliot by early August if we are able to assist him so the quicker the better.
